Andrew's Head Chef is Steve Smith, who first joined the brigade in 2008 and is ably assisted by Josh Brimmell. Eve Cullen is Restaurant Manager and Alex Pern (yes, that surname does look familiar!) as her deputy.

The names of The Star Inn and its Chef/Director, Andrew Pern, have been synonymous, since Andrew acquired the pub in 1996 and The Star has consistently appeared on a host of awards lists for its hospitality and Andrew's cooking ever since. The Star was recently ranked 19th in the National Restaurant Awards Top 100 UK Restaurants and No. 3 Top UK Gastropub 2012, the highest placing for a northern restaurant in both cases. The Pern empire has expanded over the years to include Cross House Lodge, a boutique hotel putting this picturesque North Yorkshire Moors village pub firmly on the destination location map.
In 2011, Andrew found the time to take part in BBC2's 'Great British Menu', progressing to the Finals and just narrowly missing out on getting his Celebration of Yorkshire Rhubarb onto the Banquet Menu. His second book, 'Loose Birds and Game' has followed on from the success of his first tome 'Black Pudding and Foie Gras'; both books voted 2nd in the Gourmand Awards 'Best in the World' for the Best Chef Book, although not in the same year!
Andrew is a Patron of Welcome to Yorkshire and is a 'regular' performer at Malton Food Festival, of which he is one of the original Patrons, as well as the Great Yorkshire Show cookery theatre.
