Summer 2021 marked 25 years since the arrival of Chef/Patron, Andrew Pern in June 1996; the start of the current chapter of this much loved C14th thatched Inn’s history. The Star Inn has been consistently rated as one of the UK’s top eateries, holding a Michelin star for a generous portion of Andrew’s tenure. Thank you to everyone who joined us celebrating this milestone anniversary and joined the ‘family’ of customers who consider The Star, their special place.
Situated just outside Helmsley on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, The Star Inn is essentially an Inn with Rooms serving ‘modern Yorkshire’ food made primarily from locally-sourced seasonal ingredients, such as local game, North Sea fish and fresh herbs from its own kitchen garden. Wines and beers are carefully selected to compliment the dining menu, whilst service is knowledgeable, but friendly. Add to this the atmosphere of an Inn with hospitality steeped into its very timbers for a proper Star treat.
During the past two decades, The Star has won virtually every relevant industry award from a much-celebrated Michelin star to Top UK Gastropub and has remained a firm favourite destination for hospitality professionals and diners who return again and again for The Star’s unique home-cured hospitality.
The Restaurant is normally open all year round offering a seasonal A la Carte Menu and, for pre-bookings, a full Tasting Menu with the option of a matched package of premium wines selected by our Wine Consultant.
Daily Specials allow the Chefs to take advantage of Catch-of-the-Day fresh fish, limited availability game and kitchen garden produce, as the seasons allow.
The Restaurant has been extended over the years to add the stylish, modern New Dining Room with its smart banquette seating and the cocktail bar, looking out onto the rear gardens and beyond to the Kitchen Garden.
The original much-loved thatched Inn houses the Pub Bar with its roaring fire on cooler days, the low-ceilinged Old Dining Room, and upstairs in the eaves, the Coffee Loft and Private Dining Room. Bookings are taken for the Dining Rooms.
The Pub Bar was the work of the famous Robert Thompson, the ‘Mouse Man’ of Kilburn and the cruck construction of the building can be viewed in the upstairs area for those who like to enjoy a little shot of history.
Owing to the major fire at our Restaurant, we are currently unable to accept Restaurant bookings. Further announcements will be made on Social Media, when we are able to establish a firm reopening date.
